Your first sale in an afternoon

The order that works for a new house, from an empty book to a printed catalogue and a CSV.

You can have a sale on the book before the afternoon is out. This is the order that saves the most rework.

  1. Start the sale. Name it, give it a number and a day, and check the currency. See Starting a sale.
  2. Add the sections. The catalogue prints section by section in the order you set, so add the rooms the sale runs in: furniture, silver, ceramics and so on. See Sections and their order.
  3. Enter the consignors. Take in each vendor with their reference, commission and settlement days before you write their lots, so each lot can be filed against them. See Consignors and their terms.
  4. Write the lots. Photograph the piece, write what it is, note the condition, give it a section and a consignor, and put an estimate on it. See Writing a lot at the piece.
  5. Move lots into the catalogue. A lot is being written until you say otherwise; a lot with an estimate can go in the catalogue. See What a lot's state means.
  6. Print the catalogue and take the CSV. See Printing the catalogue and Exporting the CSV.

Nothing here is final until you print. Any lot can be corrected afterwards, and numbers already given to lots stay with them.
