Starting a sale
The fields on a new sale, what each is used for, and how to correct them later.
From The sales on the book, fill in the Start a sale form and press Add the sale.
- Sale name. Required. It heads the printed catalogue and names the CSV file you download, so use the name you will publish, such as "Winter Antiques & Interiors".
- Sale number. Optional, such as 163. It shows in the catalogue's title block.
- Sale day. Pick the date of the sale. You can leave it empty while the diary is not settled.
- Venue. Where the sale is held.
A new sale starts in the same currency as the house. If this one sells in another, open the sale and use Correct the sale's name, day, venue or state to change it. Do it before you write estimates; the figures you have already typed are kept as typed and read in the new currency.
The same panel has Where it is: Being catalogued while you are writing lots, and Catalogued when the catalogue is done. It is a note for the house's own diary and shows on the book; it does not lock the sale, and you can change it back.
A sale holds up to 3,000 lots, which is a saleroom's day, not a warehouse. If a house has more than that, use a second sale.
Starting a sale works on the free first lots and on the plan. Once it exists, add its sections and take in its consignors.
