Sections and their order
How to add the rooms a sale runs in, put them in order, and remove one.
A section is a room or a run of the sale: furniture, silver, pictures. The catalogue prints section by section, in the order you set, with the lots numbered within each, so the order here is the order the room will be worked.
On the sale's screen, under Sections:
- Add one. Choose from the list of common sections (Furniture, Silver, Ceramics, Pictures, Clocks, Jewellery, Books, Textiles, Collectables, Tools and garden) or choose a section of my own and type its name. A name already used on the sale is not added twice.
- Put them in order. Use up and down beside each section. The catalogue and the CSV follow the same order.
- Remove one. Use remove. A section that still has lots in it cannot be removed; Lotdesk says how many are in it. Move those lots to another section first, from each lot's Correct the record.
A lot with no section is printed under Not yet sectioned, after the others, so nothing disappears from the catalogue for want of a section.
Add sections before you start writing lots. The lot screen only lets you choose a section that already exists; if you write "Musical instruments" on a phone and the sale has no such section, the lot is turned down with the sentence "not a section of this sale — add it to the sale first". See Why a lot was turned down.
Section names can be up to 40 characters.
