Photographs on a lot
Formats, the size limit, how many a lot holds, the cover picture, what the phone does to a picture before saving it, and how to take one off.
Each lot holds up to 12 photographs: overall, the label, the base, the flaw. A photograph can be a JPEG, PNG or WebP image, and one picture can weigh up to 3 MB. Anything else, such as a PDF or a video, is turned down with a sentence saying so.
You choose the pictures in the photograph field on the lot screen, and you can choose several at once. On a phone the browser offers the camera or the photo library; on a computer it opens a file chooser. When pictures are chosen the screen shows the first under the field so you can check it is the right piece before you save.
Before a picture is saved on a phone, the browser shrinks it so its longest side is about 1,280 pixels and stores it as a JPEG. That keeps a lot small enough to go on a poor signal, and a few hundred kilobytes is typical. If your browser cannot shrink pictures, the original is kept, which is why the size limit still applies.
On a lot's own screen the photographs are shown as a grid with a count, such as "3 of 12". The first is the lot's cover. Use Make cover on another to promote it, Take it off to remove one, and Add photographs to put more on, up to the room left. Adding and removing need a writable book; see The plan.
The number of photographs shows on the catalogue line and in the Photos column of the CSV, which holds a count, not the pictures themselves.
If a lot's pictures will not go, see My photos aren't syncing.
