Working with no signal
What is safe where the signal is gone, what the phone is keeping, and the few habits that protect a day's lots.
Half the places a lot is written have no signal, and Lotdesk is built for that. Every lot, correction and change of state is written to the phone first and sent afterwards, so a dead spot costs you nothing but time.
What to know about a day in the barn:
- Pressing Save the lot writes the lot to the phone first. The browser then asks for the next screen. With no signal that screen may not load and the browser may say it is offline. The lot has still been saved, and the outbox sends it once the phone is back in signal.
- Open the sale and the lot screen while you still have signal, so the pages you need are already loaded when it goes.
- Stay in the same browser. The unsent lots live in that browser on that phone. Do not switch to another browser halfway through the day.
- Use a normal window. A private or incognito window forgets everything when it is closed.
- Do not clear the browser's website data until the outbox bar is empty.
- Keep the phone charged and avoid closing the tab in the middle of saving a photograph.
When the phone finds signal again, open the book in the same browser: the outbox sends by itself, and you can also press Send now. A lot that gets through twice is recognised and not written twice.
At the desk or in the browser, a lot written without signal is numbered when it reaches the book. The phone app can book a run of lot numbers beforehand so that the number is written at the piece; see How lot numbers work.
If a lot is still waiting at the end of the day, look at the bar for its reason, or follow My photos aren't syncing.
